Sébastien Schneiter and Lucien Cujean showed their potential at the 49er Worlds in Matosinhos (Portugal) : the boys finish 13th of a difficult regatta. The weather conditions didn’t help the race committee : fog and light wind in the beginning of the week, strong winds at the end of the week: many days of no racing in Matosinhos. 16th after the qualifying races, the boys sailed the final races in the Gold Fleet, with a very good day. Posting a 4th and a 6th on Saturday September 2, they climb to 13th overall of the 2017 World Championship.
« It was a very special regatta ; with very few races, we couldn’t miss one », explains helmsman Schneiter. « We were very regular, it’s positive. Our last day in the Gold Fleet was very good, in a tight fleet. This 13th place is encouraging for the team.
Thanks to this result, the team qualifies for Swiss Sailing Team’s national team in 2018 !
Next steps for the 49er team : training in Europe with the italians, before going to Japan to prepare the games ! « We will race a World Cup there, and a Test Event on the Olympic venue. This good result shows us we’re working in the right direction ! We had been showing some good things during training, but not in the regatta. This result brings us confidence for the next events ! »
