Team Tilt leads the GC32 Racing Tour in Malcesine on day 2

9 July 2016    Décision 35

Team Tilt, helmed by Arnaud Psarofaghis, is at the top of the GC32 leaderboard after two days of racing on Lake Garda.

Racing got underway on Friday at 1400 and Team Tilt wasted no time in posting two wins in the first two races of the day – the young newcomers to the crew, training for the Red Bull Youth America’s Cup, demonstrating how quickly they have settled in!

Team coach, Pietro Sibello, followed the racing very closely. “We have improved our starts compared to Thursday; they are much better. The boat handling is very good, similar to the first event in Riva, and this allows us to stay ahead if we get a good start.

“The crew did good work today, but there are still two more days to go in Malcesine and the battle promises to be intense! The overall level of the fleet has gone up a notch, it is great to see the teams progressing and enjoying the racing.”

Helmsman Arnaud Psarofaghis, who also helms for Alinghi on the Extreme Sailing circuit, added his thoughts on the day. “It has been a while since we sailed with this crew configuration, but everyone worked well together on the boat. It was a very tactical day today with shifty winds, it was very interesting. We are looking forward to the final two days!”

The last two races of the day were eventful with a collision between Engie and Realteam in race 4 and a capsize on Malizia in race 5 which led to the race being cancelled.

The first two events of the GC32 Racing Tour have enjoyed excellent weather and Team Tilt is relishing the opportunity to train in race conditions ahead of the Red Bull Youth America’s Cup in 2017.

The team welcomed the support that a group from Julius Baer brought on Friday!

Racing continues on Saturday at 1300.
