The Rio Test Event is the official olympic event one year ahed of the games. The first races started on Saturday 15th August in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Sébastien Schneiter and Lucien Cujean, our 49er crew, represent Switzerland with their coach Tom Saunt. They live with the Swiss Sailing Team in a nice house close to the Marina da Gloria, the sailing venue for this event.

They sail on six different sailing zones :

The 49ers’ first day of racing was on Sunday 16th. Sébastien and Lucien had a first difficult race, finishing 18/20, and improved on the second race of the day with a tenth place. They proved they can sail against the worlds best sailors, posting a 5th place on the last race. The team finishes 17/20, a very good result for this young crew ! “Our objective was to learn as much as possible here in Rio”, explains coach Tom Saunt. “The fleet was smaller and very high level, it was difficult ! But our main target is to perform in this environment. We are a young team, we have a lot to do.”
