Sébastien Schneiter and Lucien Cujean keep on improving their skills on the 49er, preparing their olympic campaign towards Tokyo 2020. The two sailors signed very good performances at the Delta Lloyd Regatta in Medemblik, end of May : 24th overall on 56 teams, they posted two race wins and qualified for the Gold Fleet.
« It was a very good regatta, we were able to put in practice what we had trained », explains Lucien Cujean. « We reached an important step, we are really competitive under 15 knots. We now need to improve our performance over 20 knots, as seen during the last days in Medemblik. We will work on this point the next weeks. We enjoyed a lot sailing there, and our two race wins show our potential ! We know how to sail right when we’re leading, we now need to improve how to catch up the fleet. »
This great result at the Delta Lloyd Regatta qualified the team for Weymouth World Cup. But they decided to give priority to their training : « We won’t take part in this World Cup, because we want to focus on the D35 and on the preparation towards the 49er Europeans in Porto. Our Sports Director Tanguy Cariou, alongside our two coaches Tom Saunt et Simon Hiscocks, prepared precisely our program this season : we will stick to this excellent structure and plan. »
Next event for the Team : the Genève-Rolle-Genève and Grand Prix de Versoix on Decision 35 multihull this weekend. « We will train the whole week on Lake Geneva. These training sessions are very useful also for our 49er project! »
